Resume of Career

Dr. Hongliang Li received his Ph.D. degree in Electronics and Information Engineering from Xi'an Jiaotong University, China, in 2005, and won a HP Distinguished Chinese Student Scholarship for his studies. He was honored as “Excellent Postgraduate of Shaanxi Province”. From 2005 to 2006, he joined the visual signal processing and communication laboratory (VSPC) of the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) as a Research Associate. From 2006 to 2008, he was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the same laboratory in CUHK. He is currently a Professor in the School of Electronic Engineering, University of Electronic Science and Technology of China. His research interests include image and video processing, media coding, pattern recognition, visual attention, and multimedia communication system.

He has authored or co-authored over 80 technical papers, chiefly in the area of visual signal processing, image coding, and video content analysis. He is a co-editor of a Springer book titled “Video segmentation and its applications”. He is an Editorial Board Member of the Journal on Visual Communications and Image Representation, Elsevier Science, and an Area Editor of Signal Processing: Image Communication, Elsevier Science. He was a Technical program co-chair in ISPACS2009, a General co-chair of the 2010 International Symposium on Intelligent Signal Processing and Communications Systems  (ISPACS), and the Publicity chair for IEEE VCIP 2013. He serves a local chair of the 2014 IEEE International Conference on Multimedia and Expo (ICME), and the Technical program co-chairs for IEEE Visual Communications and Image Processing Conference 2016.  He served as Technical program committee members in a number of international conferences, e.g., ISCAS2014, ISCAS2013, ICME2014, ICME2013, ICME2012, ISPACS2005, PCM2007, PCM2009, VCIP2010 et. al. He is now a senior member of IEEE.
